Restaurant-Style Guacamole
Great guacamole is about restraint and balance, not a long ingredient list: ripe avocado, enough lime and salt to make it sing, and just enough onion, chile and tomato for texture.
Season it in stages and taste as you go — avocados vary, and the difference between flat and fantastic guac is almost always another pinch of salt and a squeeze of lime.
Restaurant-Style Guacamole
Chunky, bright, perfectly seasoned guacamole in ten minutes with no cooking — the fresh dip that disappears first at every gathering.
Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados
- ½ small red onion, finely diced
- 1 Roma tomato, seeded and diced
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
- ¾ tsp salt, or to taste
- ½ tsp ground cumin
Instructions
- Halve and pit the avocados and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
- Add the lime juice, salt and cumin, and mash to your preferred texture — chunky is best.
- Fold in the red onion, tomato, jalapeño and cilantro.
- Taste and adjust lime and salt. Serve immediately with tortilla chips.
Recipe notes & tips
- Ripe avocados yield to gentle pressure; if firm, ripen in a paper bag with a banana.
- Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to slow browning if making ahead.
- Leave the jalapeño seeds in for more heat.
